Bestiary is a series of studies of human misperceptions of animals. Each drawing depicts visual “quotations” of images and texts from ancient bestiaries and illuminated manuscripts, early twentieth century children’s literature, and contemporary sources which refer to human-animal relationships. |
Family Values
Family Values works reproduce text, art historical and nuclear family era images of “family” that resonate with us as cultural norms for “family.” Cheesy and nostalgic “mall photo” images of my non-traditional family disrupt the repeated cultural paradigm of father, mother and children, the concept of ideal motherhood and other inherited preconceptions of family .

These semi-transparent paintings on collage incorporate a wide range of sources-advertising, books, and art historical images as the backdrop for raising children in contemporary culture. |
This series of oil paintings, funded by a grant from the Vermont Arts Council, explores the three main monotheistic religions, Christianity, Islam and Judaism, all of which espouse peace, yet all of which have been an impetus for war. |
This series of paintings combines the phonetic language of infancy, cognitive development, and the “play” that is their medium for learning. |
Each painting in the series addresses a different concept about romantic love and how it works, whether it’s the idea that love is determined by our chemical makeup or is all easily explained by chaos theory. |
